How we began..

Thanksgiving is a time to remember to be thankful for all the things we have been given. 

In 2006 the First Baptist Church of Denmark along with others in the community decided it was time to give back to the community by cooking and serving Thanksgiving Day lunch to anyone and everyone who would like to come. It was done out of Christian love to let the community know “we care“. We had 150 people eating that year. 

The Denmark-Olar Class of 1983 asked if they could be involved in 2009 and with joint efforts of the surrounding churches our event has grown and is now reaching out to people throughout adjoining communities and the county to feed many more as our numbers grow yearly. That year we gained the assistance and use of facilities from the Denmark-Olar School District. The Thanksgiving Day meal is served at the Denmark-Olar High School. 

With the help of local businesses and donations from people in the community we are able to provide a full hot Thanksgiving meal and meals taken to area shut-ins, nursing homes and many others unable to come to the school. Some years we have been able to expand our ministry to include clothes, school supplies and grocery items...depending on what has been donated during the year. 

In 2012, we served almost 1000 plates of food. We have continued to grow each year, our count has reached as high as 1200, in 2018.  And for 2019 we are preparing for 1300. Many of those that come to eat, take plates home for an additional meal later at home. 

Since our ministry has grown so much over the years, it was suggested that we name our ministry, thus  “Feed My Sheep Ministries” has evolved. 

The name is based on John 21:17, where Jesus instructs us to feed His sheep, not only physical needs, but spiritual needs and so we continue to reach out in Christ’s love to show the community and surrounding area that we care.
